Hello, my name is Haneen, and I'm organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my close friend, Mariam, who lives in Egypt. I've known Mariam for several years, and I've seen firsthand how hard she has worked to reach this point.
Mariam is 19 years old and will soon begin her bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Arts at Alexandria University. She has dreamed of attending university for years, and now that opportunity is finally within reach. After successfully completing high school, she was forced to postpone starting university for one year because of her family's financial situation. Even after this setback, she never gave up on her dream of earning a degree.
Today, that dream is at risk because of her family's financial situation. Mariam lives with her mother and sister, and her mother's small retirement pension is their only stable source of income. The rising cost of living and education in Egypt has made the situation even more difficult. While the pension helps cover their basic living expenses, it is not enough to cover transportation and university related expenses. Despite doing everything they can to manage their finances, the cost of higher education remains beyond their family's means.
You may wonder why Mariam isn't working while studying. Her university is about an hour and a half from her home, and most of her classes are expected to finish late in the afternoon. By the time she gets home, working a regular job is neither practical nor safe.
She is simply asking for the opportunity to continue her studies and build a better future. Your support will help Mariam focus on her education instead of worrying about how she will afford the next semester.
Because GoFundMe payouts are not available where Mariam lives, I'm organizing this fundraiser from Germany on her behalf. Every donation will be transferred directly to Mariam and used only for her university education and related academic expenses.
Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings Mariam one step closer to earning her bachelor's degree. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read Mariam's story and for supporting her future. Your kindness and generosity mean more than words can express.
