Supporting Oday: Evacuation, Medical Care, and Education

My name is Oday. I am 24 years old, from Gaza.

I am a medical device engineer. I completed my degree during the past two years of genocide, studying and sitting exams while bombs fell, electricity failed, and daily life collapsed. Since November, I have been working every day at Nasser Hospital, repairing medical equipment damaged by the occupation’s violent onslaught—ventilators, monitors, incubators, and other devices that patients’ lives depend on.

Nothing new is allowed into Gaza. Spare parts are blocked. Machines are destroyed faster than they can be replaced. So we repair what we have, again and again, because the alternative is no care at all.

My work at the hospital is unpaid, but I continue because people here still need treatment and functioning medical equipment.

At the same time, I carry responsibility for my family.

In total, I help support 13 people—my parents, siblings, my uncle’s family, and my grandfather. Many of them have ongoing health needs. My mother lives with chronic illness, my little sister Noura suffers from immunodeficiency, and my uncle was severely injured during the war and still requires care. Providing food, medicine, and basic necessities for everyone has become my daily responsibility.

This fundraiser is currently the only source of support for my family. It helps us cover food, medicine, and the basic costs of surviving under extremely difficult conditions.

Alongside this responsibility, I am also trying to continue my education.

Despite everything that has happened here, I continued studying and completed my degree in biomedical engineering. I have since applied to universities in Europe and have already received two offers to continue my studies. My hope is to pursue a Master’s degree so I can develop stronger skills in medical technology and eventually contribute to rebuilding Gaza’s healthcare system.

Continuing my education is not about leaving Gaza behind. It is about gaining the knowledge and experience needed to one day return and help rebuild what has been systematically destroyed.

This campaign will help cover:

• Daily living expenses for my family of 13
• Food, medicine, and basic necessities
• Part of the university fees and costs required for me to continue my studies

I repair machines because patients deserve care, even under siege. I continue studying because I believe there must be a future beyond survival.

Asking for help is never easy, but I cannot carry all of this alone.
