UPDATED !

After months of waiting, Dr. Mahmoud's dossier has formally been accepted by the Pause programme, which helps scholars and their families evacuate from conflict zones. Their home has been destroyed, but thankfully they are still alive.

One hurdle remains: we found a university in Amiens to host Dr. Mahmoud, but given the French budget crisis, they can only accept him if we can raise €30.000, which the Pause programme will then match.

Given the great support we have received for Mahmoud's family, just a few more thousand will get us over this last step and allow the French government to proceed with the evacuation.

Mahmoud's kids are so excited to live in a safe place where they can learn in peace, before returning one day to rebuild their country.

Thank you for your generosity ! We are almost there. -Lex & Rahma

For over three decades, Professor Mahmoud Abdelmajid Assaf has inspired generations of students in Gaza while building a personal library of 35,000 books—a treasure trove of knowledge in a place where war has left the education system in ruins.

Today, this respected scholar faces an unimaginable choice: sell his treasured collection of books as fuel to feed his family or find a way to safety. We are raising $30,000 to help Professor Mahmoud, his wife, and their children secure exit visas to Egypt, their only chance to escape the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Your contribution will help preserve not only this family's future but also the intellectual legacy of a dedicated educator whose work has touched countless lives.

This fundraiser is hosted by Prof. Lex Paulson (Sciences Po-Paris ; UM6P, Morocco) and his wife Rahma Karam. Any contribution will be immediately sent by the Paulsons via an already-verified channel to benefit the Assaf family in Gaza.
