My name is Toqa Krayyem, I’m 20 years old and a second-year university student in Gaza. I live with my family—six of us in total—in a rented home that costs 1,000 shekels ($300) per month. We used to have a home filled with memories and warmth, but it was destroyed in the war. Now, all we have left is each other and the determination to survive and learn.

🕊 But survival in Gaza is never easy.

My parents are over 60 and no longer able to work. My 80-year-old grandmother needs care. My brother (23) is also a university student like me, and my sister (25) helps where she can. We have no steady income. We depend entirely on humanitarian aid just to eat.

And yet, despite the devastation around us, we still believe in education. It is our hope, our resistance, our way forward. But that future is slipping away.

🎓 Education is slipping from our hands

  • 💸 University fees are 300 dinars ($450) per semester, but we can only afford 100 ($150) — and that’s split between two students.

  • 📉 We’re falling behind because we can't register on time or afford books and materials.

  • 🏚 We live in a house we can barely pay for, and it’s only thanks to the kindness of others that we still have a roof over our heads.

  • 🛑 If we miss another payment, we may be forced to drop out, ending our only chance at building a better life.

🚨 Life in Gaza right now:

  • ⚠ Daily power cuts, clean water shortages, and medical access are severely limited.

  • 🎯 The constant threat of airstrikes makes even studying feel dangerous.
