Bilal is 20 years old, a young man who once dreamed of capturing life through his camera lens. But now, he opens his eyes each morning to a never-ending nightmare.

The war has left him with no home, no shelter, and no way forward. The echoes of destruction surround him, the weight of loss pressing down on his shoulders. His dream of becoming a photographer—of capturing beauty, of telling stories—was shattered the night a shell ripped through his home, reducing his camera, his memories, and his hopes to nothing but dust.

A Life in Ruins

Bilal’s family still suffers despite the war being over.

His five-year-old sister, Salma, no longer speaks. She clings to a torn piece of cloth like it is her mother—like it is the life that was stolen from her. Her small body trembles in the cold, her eyes wide with fear that will not leave her. Bilal reaches for her, but his hands tremble too. He is her brother, but he feels too weak to protect her.
His mother sits in the corner, eyes hollow from crying, holding Salma tightly, but there is no comfort. There is no home left for them to return to, no safety in the broken streets where destruction stretches endlessly.
His best friend, Mohammed, is gone. Bilal saw his mother searching through the rubble, her screams piercing the silence, her hands clenching onto a blood-stained shirt—the only piece of her son left. Bilal falls to his knees, his heart breaking as he whispers, “You promised me we would live together, that we would see peace.” But there is no answer.
Bilal wakes up every day in this reality, and yet, he still hopes. He still dreams. But he cannot do it alone.

What Bilal Needs

Bilal is asking for a chance at life, for the ability to rebuild his home, protect his family, and pursue his dream of becoming a photographer once again.
