My name is Malak Salama, I’m 17 years old and live in Gaza with my adoptive parents. We are a small family of three — but our pain is overwhelming.
I used to be a high school student. I had dreams, goals, and a future. But the war destroyed everything.
👨👩👧 Meet Our Family
-
Father: Salama Suleiman Al-Deirawi (48)
Suffers from severe pain in both legs. He cannot walk for more than an hour without unbearable pain. Doctors say he will eventually need a joint replacement surgery. He takes daily medication just to get by. -
Mother: Fadwa Ismail Al-Deirawi (40)
Since the war began, she’s been struggling with chronic sinus issues and breathing problems due to the smoke from cooking fires. There’s no gas or clean air anymore. -
Me: Malak Salama (17)
I was adopted by my uncle and aunt when I was just a baby. I now suffer from vision problems, and I can’t continue my education — schools have been shut down for two years because of the war.
💔 Our Struggles
Before the war, my father sold items on a small street stall. We lived simply, but with dignity.
Now, after two years of war, we have nothing left.
-
🏚️ Our home is damaged
-
🍽️ We haven’t seen flour or proper food in over 4 months
-
🥫 We survive on lentils and a few cans of peas — nothing more
-
💡 We have no electricity
-
💧 Water is extremely limited, barely safe to drink
-
🚫 We receive no aid — not even from UNRWA, due to the siege
“We are humiliated just to find a bite of food. Famine has crushed us. We live like shadows in our own home.” — Salama, Malak’s father
