Sara is a 16-year-old girl from Gaza. Her heart and mind are full of dreams and colors, but her life is surrounded by black. The war stole many things from her: her home, her loved ones, and many other things, but it did not steal her dreams. "Sarah creates color in the shadow of destruction, and in pain she searches for beauty." Sarah lives with 9 members of her family, their ages ranging from 14 to 52 years old: 4 sisters, one brother, a mother, a father, her sister's husband, and her nephew. Her mother suffers from thyroid disease and needs daily treatment (thyroxine). Her mother also suffers from back problems, osteoporosis, and weak bones. Her home was destroyed, and her daily life has become a constant struggle for basics like water and food. But Sarah clings to her passion, "art." Sara dreams of becoming an artist. She continues to draw with anything she can find, hoping that someone, somewhere, will see her work and help her continue. Sara tells you... This.
__ I am Sara, a survivor of the Gaza Holocaust. I truly hope to achieve my dream and become an artist and to complete my studies. I think and tell you: How does a person grow when this is what surrounds them?? From a home we have become living in a tent or rather a worn piece of cloth that does not even fit our belongings. We came out alive from the genocide that lasted for two years “death, destruction, hunger, oppression, sadness, fear, displacement.” We have been through everything that is bitter, my family and I do not want anything but to live. Please help me. We want to recover from everything we have been through. We are also human beings who deserve life and we deserve to dream. Support my art and help me to become an artist.__
