CAMPAIGN BACKGROUND

This initiative was originally formed to secure, purchase, and distribute tents in Southern Gaza, but in January 2026, the campaign was rebranded to "Shelter, Goods & Activities" to cover not only tents but also other non-food items and activities provided like barber days and workshops, diapers and formula, clothing and shoes, etc, across all of Gaza. And today, as of May 29, this will be broadened once again into a more "General Fund" to include everything other than food, water, medical care, or infrastructure work, that will still be covered by out other campaigns. The needs in Gaza are immense and this general pot of donations will be used to respond. The vast majority of Gaza Strip has been bombed and destroyed which has lead to the death of over 41,000 people (including 16,500 children) and the displacement of around 2 million people.

We have been securing tents for 1.5 years and managed, through your donations, to purchase 1,500+ units and deliver them to families in need. We work with an incredible team on the ground to source, purchase, store, and distribute to families, FOR FREE, many of whom are currently without any type of shelter.

A note about commission and fees that are reflected in our updates: From November till January, our fiscal host in the UK reduced their commission from 7% to 5% and our fiscal host in Gaza stayed at 4%, so you will notice 9% commission instead of our usual 11%. Starting in February, it went back up to 11% as 2% is now allocated for stipends for the team abroad. This commission is taken from the amount that arrives in our fiscal host's bank account - keep in mind if donating through Chuffed, it's free, tipping is optional, but the platform removes the Stripe processing fee from each donation.

About The Sameer Project

We are The Sameer Project (@TheSameerProject): A donations based aid initiative, led by four Palestinians in the diaspora, working to supply an emergency reponse and funding to the displaced families in Gaza.

What We Do

Our aid efforts for this campaign include:

• Shelter: This includes tents and tarps as most of the population in Gaza is now sheltering in tents. However, the quality of these tents varies and the high-quality, portable and reusable tents (Emirati & Qatari), that were originally intended to be given out for free, end up on the secondary market sold for $700 - $1,000 a tent but now (January 2026) prices dropped to around $200 - $300 per tent. 

• General Goods: This includes non-food items that Palestinians in Gaza might need like blankets, mattresses, diapers, cleaning products, etc. Since the "ceasefire" on October 8th, 2025, around a quarter of the needed trucks have been entering the Gaza Strip. This means that the supply is low and demand is high making prices really high for a population where most of the people don't have consistent income or financial support. This is why we provide such items on a camp level, and in some cases to individual cases.

• Activities: This includes barber points, sewing workshops, entertainment days, and any non-medical activity conducted outside of our camps. These activities are to provide Palestinians in Gaza with some relief and in some cases upskill people to be able to provide for themselves.
  

How We Operate

Our dedicated team consists of four Palestinians (and other volunteers) in the diaspora, working in tandem with a ground team in Gaza to execute our operations efficiently. We meticulously assess each family's needs to ensure your generous contributions are used effectively and directly impact those in need.

Rest assured, your contributions will be used to deliver aid immeidately in Gaza. But there is a commission that we have to pay to get money into Gaza as the financial system there is broken, there is hardly any physical cash bills and accounts are routinely frozen. The commission is 7% to our fiscal host in the UK: Social Change Nest who receive all our money, do the due diligence, and then sends it to Gaza via bank transfer. Our fiscal host in Gaza takes 4% commission to receive the money and do multiple transfers per day for any purchases that we may need on the ground and pay ground team salaries.
