Help My Family Survive in Gaza

Hello world,

It's Amer Abu Shaeera, and Dr. Tawil is more than just a childhood friend, he is a brother to me. Throughout this devastating war, I’ve remained in close and constant contact with him, witnessing his unwavering strength in the face of unimaginable hardship.

Ali is a dedicated physician working tirelessly on the frontlines in Gaza’s overwhelmed hospitals. Day after day, he continues to care for the wounded, the sick, and the displaced, without receiving a single paycheck. He does this not for recognition, but because his people need him, and he refuses to turn his back on them.

His courage humbles me. His perseverance inspires me. But now, Ali needs us.

He asked me to share this message with you, a heartfelt plea written in the midst of his daily struggle for survival. I promised I would deliver it with the urgency and dignity it deserves.

Here is his message:

"My name is Ali, a Palestinian physician from the Gaza Strip. I’m writing this appeal as survival has become a daily struggle for my family and me amidst the ongoing catastrophe. The need to endure has surpassed what we can bear alone.

A few months ago, our home was partially destroyed by an airstrike. Since then, my family has been forced to take refuge in a single overcrowded room in my uncle’s house, already filled with displaced people. We stand in long lines every day — for the bathroom, for a loaf of bread, to fill a gallon of clean drinking water, to receive food parcels, and even to charge a mobile phone. Our lives have been turned upside down in the blink of an eye. After three months of displacement, we were finally able to return to our home and stay in it

We live in constant fear, under the shadow of death, clinging to hope. I wish I could fully describe the pain, the exhaustion, and the despair that surround us. But no words can truly capture it. What I can say is that every day feels like a repetition of grief and loss.

Despite all of this, we want to live. We want to experience peace, to dream, and simply to be.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness and solidarity in this incredibly difficult time."
